Ada String manipulation?

Hello,

   I am looking for information regarding Ada String manipulation.  In
particular, I would like to have similar String manipulation functions as
are present in Perl.  Could someone point me to the right place, please?

A perfectly reasonable answer, but in fact the string manipulation routines
in the RM are pretty weak.

One of my background tasks is to create a complete Ada 95 version of the
pattern matching facilities of SNOBOL-4 (in another life I created the
SPITBOL systems that are fast compilers for SNOBOL-4).

This would be really useful (and then we could get rid of the peculiar
use of Spitbol in building GNAT), but I am afraid this is not super
high priority!
