In a surprising move, Microsoft announced today that their future
operating system, Windows TNT, will be entirely programmed in Ada.
This explosive decision is bound to shake the entire software industry.

A spokesperson for the software giant explained that "Using an
internationally standardized language for our development will allow us
to create a new de facto, industry-standard." Mr. Gates was quoted as
saying "code bloat for code bloat, there is no reason to stay wih C++.
I really like Basic, but many other companies have Basic too. Ada is
good for us because almost no one else uses it; the developers will have
to develop a strong trust relationship with us."

The first product release will be a powerful compiler for OLE 2,
implementing Ada 1.1 (a revision of Ada 83 that incorporates Visual
Basic and DOS 6.2, without tasking), available in Q2 1996; Ada version
2.0 will be released in Q3 1999, and will probably include some tasking
constructs (i.e. "delay" and "abort"). There were no hints of plans
to incorporate Ada 95 mechanisms; a Microsoft employee commented that
a mixture of Windows TNT and Ada 95 would be "like nuclear bombs detonated
with anti-matter".

In early tradings, the European stock markets reacted cautiously to
the news. A trader in Liechtenstein hinted that the Commission of the
European Union would not explicitly disapprove, unless mad cows were not
slaughtered in the wake of the operation. Officials in Tokyo announced
immediately that a new MITI program would be launched to create a
smaller, mass-marketable WalkAda. Netscape had already bought a copy of
the Ada Reference Manual and announced that "if Microsoft puts it in its
Web browser, we will too."

The ARA was not available to comment on the latest developments.

Geez. Its not even 9:30 yet, and this is already the second April Fools
troll posting I've come across. This does not bode well.

Of course. Germany and Switzerland re-introduced an old Saxon law last
week, slightly improving the daylight savings time here (we call it
"summer time", and it's snowing...). The consequence this year is that
we started the day many hours before you (Americans) did...

Now, if we could only get those cows to behave even when milked at
indecent hours...
