There is a partial translation of a Finite Element Kernel there
   http://homepage.sunrise.ch/mysunrise/gdm/gsoft.htm#mathpaqs
The "classic" elements are implemented: in 1D, 2D, 3D for linear, square and 
cubic basis functions.
