I don't think that further discussion about the best way to code this
example is going to achieve much.

So, Yannick, if you do this split of the package and the main (test)
program into two separate units then I will add the alternative
implementation of the package.  It will need some careful explanations
of what it all means but that seems to be the best way forward at
present.

Then once I've put something up we can get opinions on how to proceed
further.
