For a popular perception of what kind of people program in Ada, turn
to chapter 1.4.3 ("Programming languages and utilities") of "Linux
Installation and Getting Started", version 2.1.1, by Matt Welsh.
The second paragraph says:

" Besides C and C++, many other compiled and interpreted programming
languages have been ported to Linux, such as Smalltalk, FORTRAN, Pascal,
LISP, Scheme, and Ada (if you're masochistic enough to program in Ada --
we're not going to stop you.) "

You definitely have my okay to discard...

For all of you Linux users (like myself), send a polite note to Matt
telling him that
1) Ada users aren't masochists (well, most of us aren't :-)
2) There are a lot of Linux activists who are also Ada activists, and
that we deserve better comments than what's currently in the Linux
guide.

All we want is parity. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Frustrated with C, C++, Pascal, Fortran? Ada95 _might_ be for you!
For all sorts of interesting Ada95 tidbits, run the command:
"finger dweller@starbase.neosoft.com | more" (or e-mail with "finger" as subj.)
if u cn rd ths, u r gd enuf to chg to Ada :-)

I wrote the book quoted above, and have been receiving some interesting
flames since this was posted to comp.lang.ada. I'd like to point out that
the book described above is a _free_ manual distributed via the Internet,
which I provide as a service to the Linux community. In addition, I take
a tongue-in-cheek approach to many subjects in the book, and the above
comment about Ada was meant primarily as a joke. I come from the school
of extremist C and UNIX hackers, and tend to chide just about anything else.

Obviously, readers of this group have differing opinions on this matter.
That's fine---I'm not asking anyone to agree with me. Just don't take it
so seriously. It's a joke.

M. Welsh

Please don't. I get enough e-mail already. :)
