  Call For Papers: Special Issue on Reuse into Practice

IJAST  is  organizing  a  special  issue  on  Reuse  into
Practice to appear in late 1995. Software reusability has
emerged  as one of the most important research  areas  of
software  engineering. Increasingly, the  market  demands
software-intensive  systems which  are  more  robust  and
simpler to develop. In a rapidly evolving market, time-to-
market  often  differentiates success from failure.  Thus
far, it has only been possible to meet market demands for
complex   systems  by  expensive  handcrafting.  Software
reusability may be the key in solving the software crisis
since it affects the productivity in two ways:
(i)     the  reduction  of  the development  time,  since
  reusing  component  instead  of  rebuilding  them  from
  scratch should make the production faster,
(ii)     improved   quality  and   reliability   of   the
  component, since reused components are not only  tested
  but  also  verified in production environment  and  the
  more a component is reused the more reliable it is  for
  future reuse.

Despite these premises, a hard application of reusability
of  software  code is still to come, and  those  who  are
trying  to  do  it, are reluctant to really  share  their
experience, their successes and, besides, their failures.
Therefore  this  issue of IJAST would like  a  forum  for
discussing  topics related to this field  with  a  strong
emphasis  on real experiences. A non-exhaustive  list  of
interesting aspects of experiences in putting Reuse  into
Practice is the following:

1. Tools supporting reusability
2. Libraries of reusable components
3. Corporate production processes including  design  for
   reuse
4. Metrics and productivity evaluation
5. How  the  choice  of a programming  language  affects
   reusability
6. Structuring a working team to support reusability
7. Legal aspects of reusability

Format  of submission: Papers should not exceed 30 double
spaced  pages  (approx. 5000 words).  Papers  should  not
have  been  previously published, nor currently submitted
elsewhere for publication. Papers should include a  title
page  containing title, authors' names and  affiliations,
postal  and  email addresses, telephone numbers  and  Fax
numbers. Papers should include a 300 word abstract and 5-
10  keywords. Electronic submission (preferably in  LaTeX
with  epsf  figures imported with espf.sty)  is  strongly
encouraged and should be sent to:

Authors not having access to Internet can submit  through 
regular mail by sending six copies of their manuscript to 
Giancarlo Succi at the address given below.

Deadlines:  Paper  should  be  submitted  by  June   1st.
Notification  of acceptance will be given by  July  31st.
Camera ready copy will be due September 30th.
