Rational Apex vs Verdix development system

Rational Apex vs Verdix development system

Help.
  At work, management is threatening to take away our Rational
Apex development systems (they say it costs too much) and
put us on Verdix compilers using vi on SGI computers.  
  I think this is a mistake.
  Can anyone provide any metrics relating Aprx productivity to
Verdix/vi productivity?

Going from Apex to Verdix will certainly be painful. But there is no
reason to make it even worse by using vi. We are using Verdix with emacs
and an Ada mode and it works quite well.

are you sure of your facts here, seems strange to bge switching to SGI
and not be planning to use their latest Ada product based on workshop
and GNAT and supporting full Ada 95

And if you can get them to install GNAT (is GNAT up on SGI yet?) and hook it 
up to emacs properly, you can get the same sort of checking and 
cross-reference help that APEX gives you now.
