Hi all,
This is a kind of followup to an article posted by a colleague re
installing GNAT on a HP 9000/755.

I have the sources for GNAT 1.83 and have installed GCC 2.6.0. It appears I
need an earlier working version og GNAT to build this version. My problem is
that I do not have an earlier version. The documentation seems to suggest that
I need version 1.78 to build 1.83.

My question(s):

Do I need a previous version to build the new versiioin?

If so where can I get a pre-built version for the HP?

If I cannot get a pre-built version can I get a version which does not
require already having GNAT to build?

Thanks for your time,
John Murphy.

My experience is yes.

I have built 1.83 for the HP. It takes effort to package it up for
distributation. I am now waiting for 2.0 which I will build and
package. A previous port of mine is avaliable on wuarchive.

The only other way I know of is to do a cross compile. I did that
with version 1.57 (if memory serves) and have since updated to EACH
new release as it came out.

It is hopeless to try to build GNAT 1.83 from 1.79. THe only thing we
guarantee is that version N+1 can be built from version N. HP binaries
for 1.83 are available. The release after 1.83 is 2.00, the current
release, and 2.00 can be built from 1.83.
