The STARS ASSET Reuse Library has recently added the following
new assets or new versions of existing assets. You need to have an
account (no charge) with ASSET in order to access these new documents
and software. More information about ASSET, acquiring an account, and
a hyper-text catalog of our holdings can be found at the URL
"http://source.asset.com/". Information can also be obtained by
sending email to "info@source.asset.com", FAXing to (304) 594-3951, or
calling (304)-594-3954.

Why is the DoD still wasting money on this pork-barrel project????
Thanks to Rick Conn's PAL archive (and Walnut Creek's CDROM), we have a
much more effective mechanism for distributing Ada codes than this anal
retentive "get our permission first" system that ASSet has. I mean,
look at Rick's latest results:

I'm delighted to report that as of the end of this week, the PAL
passed the 100,000 file mark. More than 100,000 files have been
transferred out of the PAL by users in over 1,700 organizations in
over 50 countries. This DOES NOT count the mirror sites; if you
count them, the file count is up to over 192,000.

If the DoD is serious about making Ada competitive, then it is going to
start acting more like a business, which includes shutting down money-losing
resultless business units. Well that's what ASSet is, and as long as the
DoD allows stuff like this to drain away scarce Ada dollars, it's hard to
take seriously anyone from the DoD with regards to promoting Ada.

And whatever happened to the IDA study on the economics of the DoD Ada
reuse centers??? Why is this information being suppressed???? If you don't
have the guts to published the bad news, you don't have the guts to fight
for Ada acceptance.

So, how does one get access to Rick Conn's PAL archive? Thanks for any
information on this.

The PAL is at wuarchive. FTP to wuarchive.wustl.edu/languages/ada and enjoy.

Comp.lang.ada readers already know this, but it might be interesting for
people in the other newsgroups.

From the "Public Ada Library FAQ", Wednesday, November 2, 1994:

---
Subject: What is the Public Ada Library?
Welcome to the Public Ada Library (PAL)
Last Update: November 2, 1994

The Public Ada Library (PAL) is a library of Ada software, courseware,
and documentation on the Internet-based host computer named
wuarchive.wustl.edu (WUARCHIVE). The PAL is located in the directories
languages/ada and languages/vhdl if you access WUARCHIVE by FTP, archie,
gopher, the World Wide Web, or FTPMAIL, or in the directories
/archive/languages/ada and /archive/languages/vhdl if you access
WUARCHIVE by NFS.
[...]
Users wishing to access the PAL by FTP can use anonymous FTP to contact
the main PAL host (wuarchive.wustl.edu) or the PAL mirror sites
(ftp.cnam.fr and ftp.cdrom.com). The languages/ada tree on wuarchive
corresponds to the pub/Ada/PAL tree on cnam and the pub/languages/ada
tree on cdrom. Two hosts support access to the PAL as gopher servers:
wuarchive.wustl.edu and gopher.wustl.edu. The host wuarchive.wustl.edu
also supports an HTTP (HyperText Transport Protocol) server for users of
the World Wide Web.

I hope this helps.

If that's too busy, try ftp.cdrom.com/languages/ada.

You can also buy from them (Walnut Creek CD-ROM) a 2-disk CD with
everything from PAL and lots more. I think the new one is still $39.95.

You can e-mail to info@cdrom.com.
