Alternatives to patriotism include libertarianism, hedonism, pursuit of the
almighty dollar regardless of consequences...
The history of the second Punic war stands as a fairly good refutation to
libertarianism, one-worldism etc. etc. It is the history of a nation which
practiced patriotism (Rome) in conflict with a libertarian/laissez-faire
state (Carthage).
