Well, good question. On last INFORMS conference (that is not too much
about computing, mostly about Operations Research) there was a
presentation by Brian Kernighan. He was taking about applicability of
various programming languaged for OR. Talking about Java he said that
"this is the first strongly-hyped language".

This is why people are going to use Java - they just need a
strongly-hyped language. Such languages work well for for management
on various levels and the company visibility on Wall Street. Strongly
typed languages work only for developers. Who cares about
developers?... Who needs to care? Developers is a disposable trash.
