No, it's not. Apex is available on many platforms and works well with
plain Ada-code. Unfortunately we have lots of code which makes use of
some VADS-specific things causing problems with other compilers.

No, that's wrong. As long as you stay strictly with the Ada standard
you're out of trouble.
