"Here, class: Go off and write me anything in Ada..." Pretty vague requirements... Look at: http://www.adahome.com/ There are links to lots of software there. "Here, class: Go off and write > me anything in Ada..." Pretty vague requirements... Considering the time of year, your cynicism is probably well placed. But it is farily reasonable to want to look at a large amount of Ada source in order to learn how to use the language properly. Example programs always help me that way. There's a lot you can't pick up about a language just by reading manuals. Reading other's code is a very good shortcut to experience. Its also possible he doesn't believe such a program exists, and wants to prove his belief, but now I'm getting cynical... -- T.E.D. -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 11+ messages in thread

But still, the request is a bit vague which makes it difficult to point in the right direction. If it's "I want to look at how other people code in Ada" it may be one thing. If it's "I want a large body of Ada code to test my Ada parser against" that might be different. I can also see how it might be "I want to see lots of source code because I have an assignment to write a gazorenthorpe routine and I'll bet someone with a large project already did one of those..." But that's thinking along the lines of expecting the worst out of people. :-) MDC -- Marin David Condic Real Time & Embedded Systems, Propulsion Systems Analysis United Technologies, Pratt & Whitney, Large Military Engines M/S 731-95, P.O.B. 109600, West Palm Beach, FL, 33410-9600 ***To reply, remove "bogon" from the domain name.*** Visit my web page at: http://www.flipag.net/mcondic ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 11+ messages in thread

Folks in c.l.a. tend to be a very suspicious lot, especially around finals time. Trust me, if you hung out here for several years like Marin has, you would be that way too. For that reason, along with many others, it is usually best to include a good explanation of *why* you want the information when you post a very general question. But enough of the silly lectures. You can find loads of Ada source code to look over on the semi-official Ada homepage ( http://www.adahome.com ), and on David Botton's web page as mentioned in another post. Also the sources for Gnat are freely available, but being a compiler based on gcc there are other languages involved (C, assembly). My OpenToken package ( http://www.telepath.com/dennison/Ted/OpenToken/OpenToken.html ) has a rather interesting use of dynamic dispatching to perform lexical analysis, but it is just a set of packages, not a complete program. There's lots more out there. But without knowing your motives, its tough to tell what would work for your needs and what won't. -- T.E.D. -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 11+ messages in thread

Trust me, if you hung out here for several years like Marin has, you > would be that way too. Is it finals time in France (where the original query seems to have been posted from)? Anyway, I see no reason for paranoia when the answer is going to be along the lines of "go to the library and look under <insert UDC number here>", or in this case "go to www.adahome.com and browse". I am even inclined to answer more direct homework questions, provided I can come up with an answer sufficiently out of the ordinary that simply figuring out how to make use of it would be worthy of a homework assignment... > There's lots more out there. That's a better point, but perhaps he wants to figure that out on his own. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 11+ messages in thread
