systems--is seeking  a Performance Database Systems Engineers.
Successful candidates will benefit from the technically advanced

hardware-related position. The acquisition of substantial new
long-term business has prompted Smiths to substantially expand the
size of its professional staff at Grand Rapids, MI. The Grand Rapids
Aerospace facility presently employs 850 people and plans to increase
this number significantly over the next year.
 
The PERFORMANCE DATABASE SYSTEMS ENGINEER will analyze and compile
aircraft performance data; generate binary data for loading into
Flight Management Computers; write specifications describing data
formats and code Operational Flight software for use of performance
data. Data analysis is accomplished with numerical analytic techniques
and tools on VAX and PCs. Data is extracted from a variety  of sources
including operations and performance engineers' manuals and source
code, among others. 

The successful candidate will have a BS to Ph.D. in electrical,
computer or aeronautical engineering, mathematics, physics, or
computer science and up to 5 years of engineering experience.
Applicants should have a basic knowledge of aircraft performance,
numerical analysis and experience in data analysis. Knowledge of Ada,
C language and Visual Basic for Applications is desirable.
