systems--is seeking a Lateral Guidance Systems Engineer. Successful
candidates will benefit from the technically advanced staff, equipment

transition from a software- to hardware-related position. The
acquisition of substantial new long-term business has prompted Smiths
to substantially expand the size of its professional staff at Grand
Rapids, MI. The Grand Rapids Aerospace facility presently employs 850
people and plans to increase this number significantly over the next
year.
 
The LATERAL GUIDANCE SYSTEMS ENGINEER will be responsible for
designing, analyzing and testing algorithms that define a flight
trajectory. In addition this person will develop lateral steering
algorithms that interface with aircraft control systems to fly the
defined trajectory, as well as define the test procedures and test the
systems in a lab environment. 

The successful candidate will have up to 3 years experience as a
degreed engineer with a background in physics, mathematics, or
electrical or aeronautical engineering, as well as a strong background
in spherical trigonometry and vector analysis. This engineer also will
have experience with Flight Management Systems, navigation systems and
aircraft control systems. Knowledge of ADA software and programming
methods also is desirable.
