2 VENDORS OFFER DII COE COMPLIANT Y2K PLAN

For agencies lacking funds to begin year 2000 fixes now, a pair of 
companies is making an unusual offer to rehost applications on leased 
hardware and wait for payment until the code work is done.  The
financing 
plan, from DynCorp and Siemens Pyramid Information Systems Inc., 
leverages procurement reforms that give agencies more flexibility in 
spending operations and maintenance funds for hardware, software and 
services, the vendors said. 

By redirecting O&M funds, agencies could make lease-to-purchase payments 
to cover 2000 fixes and rehosting costs, officials with DynCorp of 
Reston, Va., said. DynCorp and Siemens Pyramid officials said the Army, 
Air Force and Defense Information Systems Agency are evaluating their 
systems to see which ones are suitable for rehosting under the 
fixed-price, fixed-time program.

DMS GETS ITS OWN FIREWALL

With the growing need for security of sensitive networks, that exchange
data with unclassified nets or the Internet, a firewall is now available
for the Defense Message System (DMS).

V-One Corp. of Rockville, MD, is modifying its SmartWall for DMS service
under a National Security Agency  program.  The message-handling
firewall,
called DMSGate, will run on Windows NT, SunSoft Solaris and
Hewlett-Packard
HP-UX platforms.  It will contain the Eagle application-level firewall
from
Raptor Systems Inc., of Waltham, MA, and will protect transmissions
between
network enclaves with different sensitivity levels.
