ICONIX Announces "Mastering UML with Rational Rose" CD-ROM Tutorial

ICONIX Software Engineering announces a new addition to it's
fast-growing family of Object-Oriented Computer-Based Training
courseware. The new course extends the popular "Unified Object Modeling
Approach" tutorial with a third volume, focused exclusively on
educating software professionals in the new Unified Modeling Language
(UML).

Available separately, or included as Volume 3 at no extra charge with
purchases of "A Unified Object Modeling Approach", "Mastering UML with
Rational Rose" provides single-click access to multimedia tutorials on
all aspects of the UML, including stereotypes to support the Objectory
Process. The CD-ROM uses narrated movies of four example projects,
using the Rational Rose visual modeling tool to illustrate the new UML
notation. The example projects, adapted from the original ICONIX
Unified Object Modeling tutorial, are drawn from a wide range of
industry sectors that are successfully applying unified object modeling
to real-world, mission critical projects. Examples include:

Portfolio Management (Financial)
Hospital Information System (Health Care)
Video on Demand (Telecommunications)
Vehicle Navigation (Transportation)

"We've found that the ICONIX process tutorials are phenomenally
critical to the way we develop our applications," stated John Gilman,
Director of Product Development for CyberPlus, a developer of
Intranet-based Electronic Medical Record Systems. "These tutorials
have helped us to make more effective use of Rational Rose to do our
software architecture and design. The "Unified Object Modeling
Approach" CD is rich in detailed information content, and effectively
transfers relevant real-world experience to the viewer. In our case,
having repeat access to the Hospital Information System example was
particularly important."

"I originally started using ICONIX multimedia training several years
ago, and have found they are by far the best available," Gilman
continued. "The "Object Methodology Overview" CD totally changed the
way I approach development, exposing me to the power of the synergy
between Jacobson, Rumbaugh and Booch methods long before even the
authors were aware of it."

"Our history with integrating the Booch, Rumbaugh, and Jacobson methods
into a unified approach dates back to 1993" stated ICONIX President
Doug Rosenberg. "The experience we've gained in delivering training in
Unified Object Modeling both in on-site workshops and using multimedia
over the past few years has put us in a unique position to quickly
deliver this much-needed knowledge to all the people who need to learn
the UML. Since Rational has been leading the effort to unify object
methods and there are thousands of Rose customers who need to learn
UML, and it made perfect sense to present the examples using Rose. Of
course, we've also included the example models on the CD-ROM."

"Mastering UML with Rational Rose" will be available from ICONIX in
early May at a price of only $295. However, advance purchase beta
versions (replaceable in May with a finished copy) are available for
immediate shipping. Sample screens previewing the content of the new
tutorial may be viewed on-line
(http://www.iconixsw.com/Spec_Sheets/Uml2.html) or downloaded as Adobe
Acrobat files.

Located in Santa Monica, California, ICONIX Software Engineering is the
industry leader in applying multimedia technology to the delivery
computer-based training for object technology. Other titles available
from ICONIX include "An Object Methodology Overview," the fastest way
to get acquainted with OOAD methods, and "An Interactive Briefing on
Object Technology," a guided tour of several dozen internet sites
featuring cutting-edge object technology.

Rational Rose is a trademark of Rational Software Corporation.
