Maybe a silly question: did you check Ada.Text_IO and friends? (e.g. Ada.Text_IO.Float_IO, Ada.Text_IO.Fixed_IO, Ada.Text_IO.Decimal_IO) If you did not, check the RM A.10, especially A.10.1 and A.10.9.
