performance should be a non-issue. You should probably profile your
application to identify the bottlenecks before thinking
about possible optimizations.

There were some posts about performances of AWS some time ago. It turns
out that AWS outperform most of the Web server around. It had even
triggered a bug in Apache Bench because it was too fast and a race
condition was found!
