What is MIL-STD-498?

MIL-STD-498 refers to the Software Development and Documentation document
used by the Department of Defense and its contractors. The purpose of the
standard is to establish uniform requirements for software development and
documentation.

What did MIL-STD-498 replace?

MIL-STD-498 replaces DOD-STD-2167A which is now considered obsolete
as of 5 Dec 94. MIL-STD-498 also supercedes DOD-STD-7935A and
DOD-STD-1703(NS) as of 5 Dec 94.

Can I make recommendations on MIL-STD-498?

Yes. You must use the Standarization Document Improvement proposal
(DD form 1426). The address is: SPAWAR 10-12, 2451 Crystal Drive (CPK-5),
Arlington, VA 22245-5200.

Why did we need MIL-STD-498?

The standard merged DOD-STD-2167A and DOD-STD-7935A for simplification.
It was updated to incorporated the use of CASE tools, reusable software,
software management, software supportablility, flexibility in preparing
documentation, and overall usage of software engineering principles.
