how to install gnat from scratch?

how to install gnat from scratch?

Hi.
I tried to compile gnat-2.00 using gcc-2.6.2-sources. I followed the README-
instructions but the compilation fails, when it tries to build "../gnat1"
because I do not *already* have the prior version of gnat!. So, how do I
compile and install gnat from scratch?

Iff you had followed the README, you would not have asked this 
question to comp.lang.ada but rather to the gnat team directly.
What I want to express is the following:
We all do not want to have a newsgroup discussing (daily!)
hundreds of failures with the language or a specific compiler
as it is the case with other languageC ;-)
