DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY'S WORK WITH AdaSAGE RECOGNIZED BY GCN
*****************************************************************
DATELINE: September 16, 1994

Government Computer News (GCN) has recognized the Department of
Energy (DOE) for their excellent technical assistance
to the Department of Defense (DOD) in support of AdaSAGE.
Mr. Alden Wynn, of DOE's Idaho National Engineering Laboratory
(INEL), will accept the award at the GCN Annual Awards Banquet on
October 26, 1994 in Washington, D.C.

The DOE was nominated by a Navy activity for INEL's initiative
and technical expertise in support of AdaSAGE. AdaSAGE is "black
box" reuse, saving an estimated $50K and higher for each system
development. AdaSAGE, not only facilitates and expedites
development of systems, it also provides "open systems" portability
by facilitating movement from DOS to UNIX, to MOTIF or visa versa.
The Windows version is currently in beta test.

AdaSAGE is utilized by all the DOD services for application system
development, by private industry to develop medical instrumentation
systems and by academia to teach the Ada programming language.
Recently, great interest in AdaSAGE has been shown by European and
Australian companies.

Mr. Wynn provided the leadership to establish an AdaSAGE
Engineering and Management Group (EMG) to manage and direct the
evolution of AdaSAGE. The EMG consists of membership
representatives from DOE, DOD, INEL, all the services, industry,
vendors, academia and an international representative.

Under Mr. Don Reifer's leadership, the Ada Joint Program Office has
assumed an active role to support and promote AdaSAGE. The Marine
Corps, under leadership of Major Dave Wood, originally funded the
development of AdaSAGE at INEL.
