Version 1.1 of the Ada Compiler Evaluation System is now available for
public review. This version features an automated system for setting
up the ACES, allowing the user to automatically produce command scripts,
tailored to his/her system, for performing the steps called PRETEST.
The new ACES PRIMER provides step-by-step guidance for the novice ACES
user, and should be sufficient for guiding any ACES evaluation that
does not present unusual circumstances.

No changes were made to actual performance tests or assessor software
in Version 1.1.

To obtain a copy of Version 1.1, use FTP to connect to the AJPO host
(currently ajpo.sei.cmu.edu). Login as 'anonymous', change directory
to public/aces, and browse. The Version 1.1 files are in the directory
'v1.1'. The README files will provide further details.

Note that the current prototype of Quick-Look (a part of ACES V2.0, now
under development) is in the directory 'qlook'. We plan to release a
new version of the Quick-Look prototype before the end of 1994.

User comments are solicited. Comments should be addressed to
'brashear@ajpo.sei.cmu.edu' or 'brashepw@adawc.wpafb.af.mil'. If you
wish to be added to a mailing list that is used as a discussion group
for ACES (and PIWG) topics, send your request to one of the above
addresses. You may send general comments to this mailing list by
addressing 'perform@ajpo.sei.cmu.edu'.

Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or suggestions.
