Is there an european ftp-site (preferably in Germany) where I could
get GNAT from (I know of cs.nyu.edu, but I'd like to avoid
oversea transfers.)

I received it pretty fast from tu.berlin 130.149.17.7
pub/gnu/gnat
(The directory examples is missing there ;-)
