NATIONAL SOFTWARE REUSE DIRECTORY (NSRD)


ASSET is currently populating a national directory of reusable
software assets, the National Software Reuse Directory (NSRD).  The
concept is to provide a type of 'card catalogue' containing descriptions
of reusable software work products and services.

The NSRD is an electronic mechanism where reuse libraries, producers
of reuse assets, and providers of reuse services can advertise their
products and services.  Information provided in the NSRD includes
details of the advertising organization (name, address, phone number,
etc.) along with an abstract providing an overview of the organization
and its products and services.  In addition, these advertisers may
provide individual listings describing specific products and services.
These may include reusable software products, software tools,
consulting services, training, etc.

For the user, the NSRD provides the mechanism for interested reuse
consumers to explore, at a high level, the available products and
services that are currently identified by the NSRD.  Users can browse
the descriptions of advertising organizations individually or they can
query the database of products and services to locate items of
interest.  Once a user has identified a product or service listing of
interest they can browse both a product description and a description
of the advertising organization.

This service is currently available to ASSET users and continues to
evolve to better suit the needs of the users and to better represent
the organizations who are providing this information.
