Keynote Speakers at 1998 Ada UK Conference
               Ben Brosgol & Robert Dewar

Good keynote speakers are important at any conference but this
year the Ada UK conference has truly excellent keynotes - Ben
Brosgol and Robert Dewar.

Ben Brosgol is the opening speaker on the first day, October
20th. Ben is currently Chair of SIGAda and a senior employee of
Aonix. Ben is no stranger to Ada. Indeed, Ben was at one time
with Intermetrics and leader of the Red language team which was
the runner up language in the original design competition. Ben
was very active in the Ada 95 project and large parts of the new
standard library are due to Ben. More recently Ben has been
active in the area of the interface between Ada and Java.

Ben will open the conference with a mature view of what we did
right and what we did wrong in past years and how we can shape a
positive strategy for the future which will take best advantage
of our investment in Ada.

Robert Dewar opens on the second day. Robert has a long history
of excellence as a contributor to Ada going back to the early NYU
Ada Ed compiler. More recently he founded ACT and his team has
done much to ensure Ada's success through the development of
GNAT. Robert has an enormous technical grasp of Ada; he has for
example been very active on practical matters such as ensuring
that the validation process is appropriate.

Robert's talk will address the very important issue of library
level elaboration - in other words the process of initial program
start-up which occurs before entering the main subprogram. Ada
contains powerful features for controlling this but many large
programs run into trouble with them. This talk will address how
to avoid these problems including the use of special analysis
tools which are part of the GNAT system. Robert is a speaker par
excellence and is especially renowned for the quality of his
visual aids.

These two talks alone are worth going to this conference for. But
there is lots more as well. There are tutorials by Putnam Texel,
Ben Brosgol, Alan Burns, Franco Gasperoni, Rob Day and Bill
Beckwith. Technical presentations cover topics such as Ravenscar
Tasking, CORBA, Project Estimation, Java, Application Experience,
OO Design Processes, Safety-Critical Issues and Patterns.

The 1998 Ada UK conference will be held at the Marriott Hotel,
Bristol on 19-22 October 1998.
