I believe I have on GetAdaNow.com all the active user groups, social, usenet and e-mail lists. If anyone knows of any active lists/groups missing please let me know.

In the next two weeks or so i should have a way for people to register and manage their own listings for individual pages, projects, etc.

Thanks. You might want to spell "advocacy" correctly.

If you are interested in referencing lists in other languages, you also
have fr.comp.lang.ada (newsgroup) and ada-france@ada-france.org (mailing
list) in French.

I very much do want to add for other languages, the more the better.

This link to the list is dead (I got from the ada-france.org site):
http://www.ada-france.org/mailman/listinfo/ada-france

Is there an updated URL? Is the list still working?

It is important to me that all the links, etc. are working.

As far as I can tell the ada-france list has been dead around a year:

http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.ada.france

Although I did add the usenet group fr.comp.lang.ada that seems to be functioning.

In fact all my searching has shown there are no "living" ada lists in any of the Ada Europe user groups other than a controlled announcement list.

It seems really strange that there are no european discussions groups.

The two I provided should be OK. Where did you get the dead link from
(within Ada-France site)?

True enough, our site is in a state of flux, managed by volunteers, so
I'm not surprised that there are some dead links (although you are of
course welcome to spot them).

I don't know what happens to gmane. There have been 5 posts on fr.c.l.a
in november.

Not very active (admitedly), but far from dead...

Yes and off of old e-mail messages from the gmane.

Can you point me to the URL for signing up for the list?

It would seem really strange to me that people would invent the Internet

Well, if you consider how well (hmm) frenchies speak english, it makes
sense to have groups not geographically, but speakally limited...

So far as I know, all of the links on AdaIC are working. If you (or anyone)
finds one that doesn't work, please drop us a line at webmaster@adaic.com so
we can fix it or remove it.

What kinds of things are what kinds of Danish users doing with Ada? I
don't have much of a picture of it outside American Federal projects.

Well as pointed out, a bit silly my statement, since everything very international. I was trying to imply discussions in other languages or regional groups.

Now that I think about it, there is a Russian language Ada newsgroup. I
don't read it myself, since I never got around to learn Russian, but
maybe I should see if Google Translate can make sense of it.

Also Warehouse Management Systems, and Warehouse Control Systems.

Actually, three major danish retail companies uses a
 Warehouse Management System written in Ada.

For the danes reading this
* Netto
* SuperGros
* Coop
The customer names are seen in the video-links or the links below

<http://www.consafelogistics.com/our-offer/warehousing/sattstore-wms>

One is extremely automated, one is not automated at all, just very many
forklifts, and voice-based pick, and one is in-between, much automation
and many voice-pickers and fork-lifts as well.

The automated one has 40 high-bay stacker cranes, 15 robots for layer
picking, 5-to-come mini-loads cranes (I'm working right now with it,
helping out the danish office) and ca 20 STV:s - kind of an automated
truck on a mono-rail running in an oval track.

The layer picking robots from the vendors (Dematic) perspective,
they kind to fail to mention they are a small part of the store...
But they get orders, stock-data, etc from Ada...

The rest from the main hardware vendor (Daifuku)
cranes/stvs etc

<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE5yqCXbHJE>

It has be expanded since the film was made.

This vendor also fails to mention the brain of the system, the WMS.

Which is in Ada.
And David Bottom, if you read this, your gnatcom is used in
communicating with the conveyor plcs.
System is on AIX but I wrote a bridge between OPC and our system, also
all Ada - a windows service coupled with opcda.dll via gnatcom.

The half-automated one is described in danish here
<http://www.consafelogistics.dk/in-practice/articles/supergros>

and the not automated here
<http://www.consafelogistics.dk/in-practice/news/pickbyvoice>
it is mentioned that they have 550 voice-pick units in 4 sites
used by 1200 workers (yes shift)

The WMS does not control the machines, but it administrates them,
selects locations in the highbay, tells the STV/Crane/Conveyor/Belt
when to pickup and where to deliver etc. It also speaks with the ERP of
course, to get orders/stock data ..., and report back.
SAP is common around here.

Is always neat to find out where your code is being used :)

Great. Which one OPC was it?

I gather you did an OPC client. Do you plan to publish a reusable version
for Ada community?

[ I used once a Softing's OPC client, it was a horrible MFC mess. A new OPC
UA (TCP/IP-based) is even bigger mess. ]

It was developed using Matrikon's OPC simulation
But at Netto, Siemens is used (I think it's called
OPCS RSLinx OPC Server)

And at another site - a papermill - we used Allan Bradley.
That one is though replaced by proprietary socket protocol,
because of less complexity.

It is also tested with ABB's opc-server, 10 years ago.

> I gather you did an OPC client.

Yes, as a socket-server windows service.
I listens for incoming subscription requests,
keeps the sender in a list, and when a signal changes,
the subscriber is notified via a simple but proprietary text-based
protocol, that I wrote.
Of course, the subscriber may write values to the ops-server to.

client 1 <- sockets -> win-service <--> opc-da <--> opc-server <---> plc
                     |
client 2 <- sockets -|
..                   |
                     |
client n <- sockets -|

There are 2 socket connections for each client.
1 - for control, sending sbuscriptions, write commands etc
2 - for receiving new values from plc

This was in 2003. I used Ted Dennison's Windows service package (for
SETI), AWS 1.2, AdaSockets 0.16 and of course code of my own.
But to release it, I need a go from my manager.
And looking at it, it will need some freshing up.

However, if there is interest, I can write/publish a simpler
client, still using the same technique,
but skip the part with publish/subscribe/sockets/win-service

client 1 <--> opc-da <--> opc-server <---> plc

AWS is used only as a debug tool, Ie you can browse to see
which the subscribers are, and what they subscribed to.

Netto has about 1600 signals, so the services in cloned int 6 instances
managing about 250 signals each.

And so is OPC. And the opc-server usually polls the plc.
so it is slower that direct socket.
