To add to the volume of e-mail out on the nets:

Grace Hopper did indeed retire as a Rear Admiral (Lower Half).
However, it was incorrectly noted that the Navy had returned to its
practice of a few years ago by "lumping" O-7's and O-8's together.
The major difference between then and now is that Rear Admirals (Lower
Half) wear one star, and Rear Admirals (Upper Half) wear two stars.
Before, both halves wore two stars so you couldn't tell who was who.
I personally thought Commodore was an appropriate title, but somebody
felt that wearing a star and not having "Admiral" in your title was
a slap in the face. I don't think it was the Commodores (I mean
Rear Admirals - Lower Half) who were complaining. But what do I know,
I am just a Lieutenant (O-3 in the Navy) trying to make a go of it
out here in the lovely desert of NWC China Lake, CA. Keep those cards
and letters coming.

I am looking for a good book from which to learn ADA. The learnee
is an experienced software developer who knows C, PL/1 and various
assemblers. Please reply directly to me and to the bulletin board
only if you want to

I still recommend "Software Engineering with Ada," by Grady Booch (but
make absolutely sure you get the latest edition). After you've gone
through that, you might want to try:

-- "System Design with Ada," by Ray Buhr (to learn about
		tasking)

-- "Studies in Ada Style," by Hibbard et al. (to see some case
studies that point the way toward a programming style
	    perhaps unique to Ada).

By the way, Jerry, since we both work at MITRE, feel free to contact
me at x7753 if I can be of any further assistance w.r.t. Ada.
