Hello, Sam,

Yes, there is a "trick" to using KERMIT over the MILNET
(or any part of the DDN). The @ character is filtered, for one (you
have to send two @'s to get one thru). For another, the TACs may be
set up in a lot of different ways, such as recognizing XON/XOFF flow
control. This is another trap.

The KERMIT I use on SIMTEL20 (which should be similar to your
KERMIT under VMS) allows for this and runs nicely. The following
is my init command file which sets up my KERMIT for DDN transfers:

SET RETRY PAC 60
SET REC PAC 58
SET SEN PAC 94
SET FILE 7-BIT
SET REC TIM 90
SET SEN TIM 90
SET TVT ON
SET ITS ON

	I hope this helps.

		Rick

Some industrial spy has obviously purloined the deepest darkest product
development plans of Integrated Software Inc. and made it public under
the cover name Ugly_Printer. Reference Mark Bigger's spec.
Seriously, I see a real market need for such a thing for use by
software vendors who choose to distribute and maintain Ada source code.
I call it's output MasquerAda, the product itself will probably be called
The_MasquerAda. In addition to Mark's specs I would add that that all
identifier would be a random string of at least 60 characters. I'm also
considering unwinding structure so that compilation units can be very
large, substituting goto etc.
If anyone wants to work on this with me let me know. If we scramble
text messages to maintain secrecy why not scramble source code?
regards, sam harbaugh

It would have been better if these messages were posted last Tues (1 Apr).

I agree with Sam. We need some advice on this "export" issue. The more
I think about it, the more it worries me. I give Ada code and education
material to anybody who asks for it. Also, I teach Ada to foreign
students every year. Could I be prosecuted? It seems this is something
the AJPO should be advising us on.
