Hi,

DOD-STD-2167A was superceded by MIL-STD-498 in 1994. The standard
refers to the Software Maintenance and Documentation manual.

As for Ada, it is the main programming language for Space and Naval
Warfare systems. Most waivers are not used since many companies
consider the black box approach and let you use C/C++ for the most
part or older Ada-83 coding. Believe me, I told a few companies about
using Ada-95 and they simply said they didn't want to dump money into
another compiler. Guess they don't teach certain things to MBA
graduates.

On another note, I've read that they only use Ada is something better
is not out there to do the job. Many companies still hire Ada
developers (Northrop, tybrin, Lockheed-Martin) so the jobs are out
there.

Anyhow, update your people on the newer MIL-STD-498. There is no need
to refer anyone the older DOD-STD-2167A, unless they just don't keep
up with the latest issues in software engineering. That could be a
problem.

P.S. Correcting my reference, the MIL-STD-498 is known as the
"Software Development and Documentation" manual. The manual was
released in 1994 to consolidate and combine it with other related
material.

Well, sorta...

We have one project that is still required to use DoD-STD-2167A, since
it
started before 1994.

We have another project that doesn't require _either_ standard, because
it
started just this year, _after_ acquisition reform and the block change
process.

So, the bottom line is that "keeping up with the latest issues in
software engineering" is a lot harder than it sounds :)

Actually, 498 is scheduled to go away... replaced by the ISO standard
which looks a lot like it.... DoD is saying Q1 97, waiting ISO
approval....
