SAIC Summer Intern Program
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) is seeking
highly qualified and
strongly motivated upper-level undergraduate and graduate students to
participate in a
Summer Intern Program. This diverse and challenging program,
conducted under the
direction of the SAIC technical staff in our Earth and Atmospheric Research
Technologies facility located in Hampton, Virginia, is affiliated
with an ongoing
government contract with NASA Langley Research Center.
NASA Langley Research Center, a world-class center in aeronautical and
space-related research and development, is located in Hampton, Virginia;
approximately 200 miles south of Washington, on the Chesapeake Bay, between
Virginia Beach/Norfolk and Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown.
Successful candidates will have an opportunity to work in a highly
technological
environment while furthering their own professional growth in any of
the following
fields:
Earth Sciences, including: atmospheric science; meteorology; upper atmospheric
physics and chemical dynamics; ozone and aerosol research; cloud physics and
cloud parameterization; physical geography; and geology.
Physics, including: geophysics; astrophysics; mechanics; thermodynamics;
optics; and electro-optics.
Engineering, including: mechanical engineering; electrical engineering; remote
sensing technologies; micro-instrumentation; laser research and laser/lidar
instrument design or use; differential absorption lidar experiments; and
satellite-based instrumentation design or use.
Mathematics, including: applied mathematics; statistics; differential
equations;
advanced calculus; and numerical methods.
Scientific computer programming, including: technical computer graphics; data
visualization; manipulation of gridded or earth-locatable geophysical
databases;
programming in UNIX, C, Ada, or FORTRAN; image processing; and satellite
data processing display.
Application packets will be sent to all interested students.
Applicants will be required
to complete and return these forms in order to be considered for the
Summer Intern
Program. To assure an efficient evaluation of the applicant's background and
capabilities, the following information is required (in the order requested):
SAIC Employment Application Form.
List of technical (math, science, engineering, computer) courses completed
(include grades).
Degrees obtained and/or expected (include name of academic institution).
Statement from at least two references who are familiar with applicant's
technical qualifications (include names, addresses, and telephone numbers).
Computers and computer languages (describe level of proficiency).
Brief description (~ 1/2 page) of professional interests for the next
2-5 years.
Statement of previous work experience in research-related fields.
Successful candidates must be U.S. citizens or eligible for
employment with a U.S.
government contractor. Salary will be based upon qualifications and
work experience
related to the program tasks. A full-time 40 hour work week is expected with a
minimum hourly rate of $8.00/hr. for undergraduate and $9.00/hr. for graduate
students. The program is scheduled to begin on May 27, and end on
August 29, 1997.
Individual start/end dates may be tailored to the selected
candidate's availability. SAIC
will provide lodging locator assistance. A small relocation allowance
is available for
out-of-state candidates. Final selection notification letters will be
mailed by February
17, 1997.
