Greetings:

Since I can remember, it is not the true efforts of
most manufacturers to support the end users on
non hardware or non OS specific issues. We have this
thought that if MicroSoft products don't work on my system - its
IBM's fault (or maybe Sun).

The manufacturers feel that they can support the
third party developers, because they pay dues to get
this level of support and by way of contract - can
rock the ship when it comes to support issues. You will
find that many solutions can be solved by asking the developer market
- not the manufacturer - for CERTAIN issues. Now, let me relate this
to the Ada95 development.

OS/2 is the operating system from IBM. Ok, we know this part. GNAT is
something from Ada Core Technologies. You
don't go to IBM and ask them for Ada95 support. That is not their
responsibility (Ada development). You go
to ACT and ask them to support your OS. They don't
have to (nothing is free in this world, or so my daddy told me) but
if they are interested - they will. If you
want to contribute to this cause or sponsor the
project with $$$, then you can push a few more buttons
on the pearly gates. Otherwise, its developer's interest.

So again, its not the computer manufacturers' responsibility to help
you other than help you use what they sold you (this only goes so
far). Otherwise,
independent software development is usually
an unfunded venture into the unknown. If you aren't paying for a
certain kind of service, don't aim your guns so soon. You can't
expect free service all the
time, but if you pay for it - that's another issue.
