After listening to Dr. John Barnes at the Washington Ada
Symposium, and attending numerous SIGAda and ADAJUG conferences
about why Ada is failing (or not used well) in embedded systems,
my associates and I decided to perform an act of community
service. We decided to take some of our experiences in building
real time systems, call for volunteers to write about there
experiences and put together a "Hard Knocks Handbook" which will
be a compendium of do's and don'ts geared for Ada programmers.

To make it fair, we decided not to publish this commercially, but
to put the results on the net for all to benifit. That way
people who write their experiences are not exploited.

We will gather together what people write, edit spelling and
punctuation, and group similar topics. We will not change in
anyway (other than above) what people are writing about.

Soooo....

If you have implemented a real time system, or written embedded
code (not necessary to write in Ada, but this is for Ada) here's
your chance to become famous, but not rich, and to share your
pitfalls with the Ada world.

You may write as long or as short as you like. Send responses to
me, at the address below. If you would like to have a copy of
what people have sent so that you may respond, I will keep a file
active on my unix system so to send you these reponses in a
timely manner.

I don't - personally - write real-time software, but I applaud what you
are doing. I will pass the word along to students (who are usually also
employed in the DoD industry in DC) and friends who don't read the
net regularly. Go for it!
