The thing is, the Java word for what you want to do is "deprecate" (my dictionary says "to argue earnestly agains some evil", whereas I think Ken's intent was to just mark an interface as to be avoided). I didn't know "depreciate" had a transitive use at all (to undervalue or disparage).
