About 1992, in a previous company, I managed to convince the rest of the project that Ada would be a good language to implement a soft real time, fault tolerant distributed RDBMS in. We got quite a bit of negative comments from technically minded customers, and also potential investors, mostly because C++ was seen as the coming language, and Ada was perceived as un-cool. They figured that being left out of the mainstream was not a good idea. What eventually shot the idea down, was ridiculous prices for compilers, and non-availability for certain platforms (which we ended up not porting to anyway).
