But it might be convenient to have a "this registry" variable in some package body, and it might be inconvenient to know what sort of registry it is when that variable is elaborated. In that case, one needs a pointer. But I do agree that the program probably won't magically migrate from Windows to Unix at run time, and change its registry accordingly! ;-) - Bob
