I think it's fair to call the shorter syntax the "default". You have to say something extra to get short-circuit behavior (and I think that's a good thing). It's got nothing to do with other languages. Similarly, I would say "The default parameter mode is 'in'." And "objects are variable by default" and "objects are not aliased by default". - Bob
