Skipping the details on how Linux will erase all data, without asking if that is OK, and while typically producing too many errors in a nearly erased partition to "ext2ed" edit away, I note that Linux can be runs inside of VMware. Then if there is a small underdocumented hang during a shutdown appears (and where the program doing that is not named), then the largely destroyed (ext2) filesystem can be rolled back to a point where the data still existed.
