In this subthread I didn't have a question: I just encouraged Ray to have a look into OCaml. More like a recommendation between people that are lokking for good restaurants: Tastes differ, but still one is listening to other peoples advice and one is still giving references where one liked it :-). In the superthread the open question seemd to be yours: Typing - is it good or bad, is type inference good or bad etc -- so I related your request for measurements to your question(s) and was a bit surprised that suddenly we're only talking about suitability for beginners. But as I said in other posts (responses to your's and Dmitry's): I'm not sure any more at all what we're talking about, except (rather general) likes disklikes and feelings of good and bad vibrations ... I'm admittedly not sure I'd like to posit any thesis here now or suggest that anyone else does: After all, we don't have the instruments here to check / test "the truth" or find empirical data that definitely doesn't exist.
