No. It will also compile the unreachable code. And that is good. You should never write code that doesn't compile. One of the big problems with the C preprocessor is that it prevents the compiler from checking the deactivated parts for syntax errors. Anyway: Put the system-specific code in one (or more) separate packages with a common specification and all the system-variations hidden in the bodies.
