It also _MAY_ crash the plane, although it was just a minor glitch, yet allowing the invalid value to leave the sub-system resulted in the auto-pilot going haywire and not even letting go back into manual mode, so the crew and all passengers went down puking when the Jumbo tried to do some rolls and loopings. In hindsight you can always tell what should have been done to avoid the mistake. That's called experience, BTW.
