I actually find with Gtk.Arguments; use @; with Gtk.Button; use @; with Gtk.Handlers; more readable than the canonical form. And more pleasing, which can also be a quality factor. Natural language has lots of pronouns for good reason. And hey I just found motivation for the symbol choice: @ = a = anaphoric pronoun :-) In the canonical form you must read 2 identifiers to verify that they are equal. The pronoun has an immediate reading. It's more communicative, more lingual. Curiously enough when I first suggested "use @" I was kind of kidding--it was your very example that made me realise it is actually more readable.
