Why did you think "End" meant "End of line" instead of "End of file"?
Probably because some other IDE did it that way. Well, Emacs probably
defined End before that IDE was born, so it's the one that's wrong :).

Which is what I do. I often want to go to the end of the line, but
very rarely to the end of the file.

Which is a major strength of Emacs. In GPS, there is very little
capability to bind keys or customize the interface (it is getting
better). Other GUI IDEs are similarly limited.

In Emacs, _everything_ can be customized.
