The absence of comp.lang.ada@ada.eu.org mail->news transformation has
probably been caused by a bug in the mailman gateway software.

I just submitted a patch to mailman's authors and Debian maintainers
for the package.

If this message goes to the newsgroup, then it is likely that this bug
was the blocking one.
