I believe that type names for units of measure should be plural, as in common (English) usage: type Metres is digits 6; and that enumerations should be singular: type Hostility is (Unknown, Friendly, Neutral, Hostile); and see nothing wrong with short names for local variables or procedure parameters: H : Hostility; I : Index; though I admit it's not so clear for record components, which are much more widely visible. A lot of the reason for lack of clarity is that people don't spend enough time thinking of the right names for things. The _T pattern can let them off the hook too easily. I do like _P for pointer types (and _G for generics), though!
