PostgreSQL returns everything but binary data as string, as far as I know. Can't you convert as string to what you want? There is a VERY rudimentary PostgreSQL package doing that here: http://home.swipnet.se/lundin/ada_95_tools.html I have a better one, but it's not published yet.
