Admittedly, C++ was completely below my radar until about 1994. At the time, I seem to remember everyone talking like it was some brand new thing that was still being worked on. It certianly wasn't standardized yet, and Ada was already nearly done with the second version of its standard. Don't get me wrong: It is good to have the *facts* laid out, where someone had them wrong.
