Yes indeed, the KDF9 had a particularly nice interrupt system. You could issue a tape read to a block of memory. There was no end of transfer interrupt BUT if you attempted to read from the block of memory before the transfer was complete THEN you got an interrupt. This is a nicer arrangement than we see in current day hardware!
