If ACT goes away, or even if its customers become dissatisfied with either the price or quality of support, somebody else can come in and offer maintenance services since the source code is freely available." And of course this works two ways. Since ACT does not own GNAT, we know we do not have a captive market for support, as would be the case with a proprietary product, which encourages us to work hard to provide high quality support!
