Unfortunately, back then there were few good implementations, and even the standard packages were difficult to use even if they worked (I even had troubles getting hello-world to work). If the packages have gotten standardized and are easy to use then that in itself would eliminate most of the problems I had with it (unlike C++ where every vendor claims to have a different industry wide standard class libary, with a tendency to base things off of templates to ensure slow bulky apps). -- if you had trouble getting hello world to work, then there are only three possible explanations 1. You did not know what you were doing 2. The Ada compiler you were using was completely broken 3. The Ada compiler you were using was incorrectly installed Solid Ada 83 compilers in which the standard packages work just fine (the I/O packages have always been standardized) have been around for a long time.
